What is Ceramic Engineering?
Ceramic Technology is an emerging branch of Engineering/Technology dealing with the study of the properties, manufacture, design and applications of ceramic materials. The program also prepares students about the manufacturing aspect of ceramic design and its properties. In properties, one learns about thermal properties as well as about elasticity, hardness, fracture toughness and creep as well as strength. While dealing with manufacturing, the students learn about casting, sintering, extrusion and injection. As far as designing is concerned, students will also get to know about various principles of design with brittle materials, analysis of fracture, Waybill statistics, and hardening of ceramics.
Scope of Ceramic Engineering?
- The scope has widened and ceramic engineering is being increasingly used in the aerospace industry to make of space shuttle tiles, aircraft engines, manufacturing of airframes.
- Ceramic engineering has come to acquire importance is chemical industries, industrial and transmission electricity, packaging science, medicine and guided light wave transmission. There are job opportunities in the cultural department or tourism sector as well.
- Two types of workers are engaged in this industry – ceramic technologists and ceramic designers.
